So here I am. 30 weeks (plus the obligatory number of days , 3) pregnant. How wonderful I hear you say. Yes it is and I am grateful everyday that I have been able to conceive especially because of my age (don’t you love being called a geriatric mum)
My little girl turned 1 when we discovered number two had been conceived. I recall the first time we found out we were pregnant; my husband cried. It was so emotional, wonderful and scary.
So when I told hubby I was late for my period this time around, he didn’t seem too worried. I on the other hand

knew this wasn’t normal. So test in hand, I revealed we were indeed having another baby. This time I laughed nervously whilst my husband said ”what the f, how did that happen”. I decided not to pursue that conversation…. pregnancy hormones had suddenly appeared in abundance. Funny that.
So here we’re are 9 weeks away from the due date and 2nd time around is so different. Having a toddler (now 18 months) has made the experience somewhat less magical compared to the first time. I was fortunate to have a lovely pregnancy and birth with my

daughter.
This time though:
– I look like I am 9 months pregnant (glad all the post baby excercise helped to ”tighten up”)
– everyone likes to offer their advice of having two under two (thanks but it doesn’t help when you say it’s not easy)
– my back feels like it’s about to split in half everyday, restless legs seem to be there constantly and I seem to sleep like I am on a ship – constantly moving and turning! Not elegantly I may add.
– I seem to have NO pelvic floor now
– I’m reminded by every health professional that my age

will mean induction if I go over 40 weeks (another story and another fun blog)
– I have to remind my husband I am pregnant again. Back rubs are definitely rationed 2nd time around
– people are overtaking me when I walk. That shit hurts because I used to be the one who walked fast!
And yet, all of the above is short lived because soon I will meet my new little baby and fall in love all over again……just with more grey hairs and wrinkles.
