40* Sure Fire Ways To Know If You’re In Love

1
Dear reader, I really will stop banging on about love soon I promise. I’ll get back to really important stuff like: Who would win in a hair flicking contest between Harry Styles and Roger Federer? (Styles by the smallest of margins I think).

Have you got it bad? Let’s see how bad….

1. Is he the first thing you think about when you wake up? And the last thing you think about before falling asleep?

2. Does he make your resting heart rate soar into the 100s when he looks into your eyes?

3. Does his voice soothe you, calm you, excite you all

at once?

4. Does the brush of his lips against yours send electricity through your body?

5. Does he take your breath away with just a look?

6. Does time speed up inexorably when you’re together and slow when you’re apart?

7. Does separation actually cause you pain?

8. Is he the person you would happily hole up with, letting the rest of the world pass you by?

9. Would you try something new he loves doing because you know he’ll love sharing it with you?

10. Is there no one else in the world you’d rather be with?

11. Does he make

you feel complete?

12. Can you imagine your life without him in it?

13. Do you feel his pain and his successes?

14. Do you worry about him and want the best for him?

15. Do you want to know everything about him?

16. Can you see the child in him?

17. Do you respect his time and decisions?

18. Do you trust his judgement?

19. Do you have fun together?

20. Do you love the way he makes you feel?

21. Does he make you feel like the only girl in the world?

22. Are you yourself with him?

23. Do you think of him before

yourself?

24. Do you always want to be in his company?

25. Does saying his name make you smile?

26. Does your heart race every time you’re reunited?

27. Do you feel a deep soul connection with him?

28. Are you interested by his interests?

29. Does he make you laugh?

30. Do you share experiences together? Even if it’s just listening to a song?

31. Does hearing him laugh make your soul happy?

32. Do you love him body and soul?

33. Do you worry about death and that one of you will be left without the other?

34. Does he

know more about you than you’ve ever told a soul before?

35. When he tells you he loves you does it make your heart burst?

36. Is he your closest friend?

37. Do you love the way he looks at you?

38. Is he never far from your thoughts?

39. Would you give him your last Jaffa Cake?

40. Do you constantly wang-on about him in blogs?

If you’ve got through that list, firstly thank you for sticking with it. If you have said yes to most of the list then there really is no hope for you (or me). It’s love and it’s real.

What does love

mean to us? Does it mean finding someone who we think is fabulous and who thinks we are fabulous too? That doesn’t seem to be that hard an ask. There must be more to it. Chemistry, trust, respect, stuff in common, a similar outlook on life, experiences together, values, an undefinable something. An explicability. Why does this person make me feel all 40* of those points? What makes him so special? Why is he my lobster? Particularly?

I don’t know, all I do know is that he fits me. He feels right. It feels good.

All this would mean nothing if he

didn’t feel the same. My passion and love are buoyed by his. If we didn’t feel the same it wouldn’t be what it is.

I am sure many of the things on the list will evolve and settle with time. Love will change and become deeper and firmer. But I believe the essentials will stay the course of time.

In the words of Audrey Hepburn:

“I believe in pink. I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that the happy girls are the

prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”

So dear reader, here’s to miracles, happiness, kissing, love, laughter, strength, living, sharing, friendship and the colour pink.

* it was only meant to be 10 but got a bit out of hand, apologies.

Yours, Carolina

Writer and aspiring novelist who loves Jaffa Cakes, Michael Buble, Colin Firth, Audrey Hepburn, dramatic eyeliner and laughing until it hurts. Has children, which is nice. Once drank a whole bottle of tabasco sauce for a bet. Childhood crushes included Poncherello from Chips, Monkey (from Monkey Magic), Mr Claypole from Rentaghost and both of the Dukes of Hazzard boys.
