A note to my sons on Mother’s Day

1
Dear Boys,

You’re too little to take this all in right now, I know, but one day I hope that you will.

1) From the second you were born you each stole Daddy’s heart and mine.

2) Daddy and I would do anything for both of you. (Though getting a pet rat is still a ’No!’)

3) Mummy isn’t just a ’stay-at-home mum’; she has a few hidden talents and dozens of dreams.

4) Daddy works so hard and does it all for you.

5) Keep up with the cuddles; they mean the world. (Ok, so maybe when you’re 18 it’s probably not the done thing to hug me in

front of your friends, but when they’re not looking give me a squeeze – it will make my day.)

6) Every night I sneak into your room to steal another goodnight kiss.

7) When you’re happy it makes me happy. When you’re grumpy I get grumpy too (hence why you find me hiding in the kitchen with a G&T).

8) I feel your pain when you cry or get hurt; it goes through me like a thunderbolt and I wish more than anything that I could make you feel better.

9) If you’re ever bullied I hope that you can confide in me. I’d hate for you to go

through something like that alone. You are never alone, remember that.

10) Daddy and I will protect you as much as we can when you’re with us, but one day you’ll each have to stand on your own two feet.

11) Sadly the world is not like the perfect bubble you live in now. There are bad people out there and there are sad things going on all around us. Surround yourself with good, decent people and stay positive throughout life.

12) Sugar really does make your teeth fall out.

13) Vegetables and fruit really are good for you.

14) Being nice

is far better than being mean. Always be nice.

15) Girls are great – give them the respect that they deserve. And remember, Mummy’s one.

16) I can’t wait for you to grow older, to meet the man that each of you become, to meet your friends and your partners. But I will be sad to say goodbye to your younger years, to the mayhem and the fun that we’re having right now.

17) One day you’ll love someone like I love Daddy and you won’t need me so much in your lives. I am both looking forward to and dreading that day.

18) When you have children

of your own you will realise just how much you mean to us – and that when we say we love you ’to infinity and beyond’ we really mean it.

19) Always be kind, always be courageous, always be you.

20) Follow your heart in life and remember that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Just work hard and go for it. There are so many opportunities out there in the big wide world. Go get…

We are with you all the way.
