AN ODE TO BEST FRIENDS
There are four of us.
We used to live together.
Now we live far apart.
But we’re still the best of friends.
The kind of friends
who are always there,
Even when we are far away
And haven’t spoken… in ages.
The kind of friends
Who have your back
And know how to make you laugh
Even when they’re laughing at you.
The kind of friends
Who you tell anything to
And they’ll support you, always
… even when you’ve been bonkers
BECAUSE WE GO WAY BACK…
There are four of us.

Daytime TV and college projects,
Endless chat, sitting on our beds
Then, 20-somethings in London
Fashion cupboards & party invites
Carpet picnics to Sex & the City
House white and hangovers
Then, snogs, dates and ‘proper’ boyfriends
Engagement drinks and dress shopping
Bridesmaid duties, amazing weddings
Dancefloor craziness to ‘Gat Decor’
Pregnancy tests and blue lines,
Miscarriages, birth, clueless new mums
Actual children! (how did that happen)
Nine of them, from the four of us.

picnics & play-dates
Moving houses, kids starting schools
Making new friends & lives evolving
Keeping in touch whenever we can
Chaotic lives and snatched phone calls,
Businesses to run, things to do!
Annual brunches and nights away
Order Champagne – we deserve it
BECAUSE WE’LL GO WAY FORWARDS…
There are four of us,
And I can imagine that we’ll still be us
Through our 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s…
When our skin creases and our eyes twinkle
Even if we have yawning gaps
When life is busy and we forget to call,
Even if we

don’t see each other
As much we did back in the day…
But when we do, it will always be good.
We’ll have carpet picnics and house white
Laugh at old-times and in-jokes
Cherishing memories, while creating more…
BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT BEST FRIENDS DO
AND THEY’LL ALWAYS MAKE ME HAPPY.
