An Ode to plastic

1

Ten years ago you came into our life
We had no idea you’d cause so much strife
A few plastic bottles to feed the baby
Nothing wrong with that, maybe?

But then you grew to cups and bowls
Slowly ebbing away at our souls
Before we knew it, the collection grew
To knives and forks in green and blue

What once held our martini glasses
Now exploded in bright masses
Of every kind of plastic beaker
Faded with teeth marks, looking meeker

Our dinner for two with white China
Was now a 5 person plastic diner
Apologies when

dinner was set
To guests joining the plate roulette

Drooling over expensive kitchenware
Wondering if we’ll ever make it there
We’ve finally reached at last, the point
Where you’re out of this family’s homely joint!

Although the memories of baby’s first tea
Will be cherished by us endlessly
The plastic mountain that lived in our kitchen
Now resides within the bin!

Hurray to a future of mason jars
And plates shaped in hearts and stars
Yes this means our beauties have grown
But hello to a lovely new crockery zone!
