At a loss…

1
Today I’m struggling. I’m struggling to understand this world that we live in. This world that I brought two innocent children into.

Today is the day that Jo Cox MP died. Brutally shot, stabbed & kicked to death on a street, only 10 miles away from my own.

A bright, intelligent, articulate, caring woman. A 41 year old mother of two young girls. How do you even begin to tell two small girls that their mother isn’t coming home ever again? How does her family make sense of this truly horrifying, senseless act?

The world is still reeling from

the mass shooting in Orlando at the weekend & now, here in the UK, we have to try to come to terms with the loss of Jo.

I feel a real sadness. Did I know Jo? No. However, there are similarities between us that makes her seem so familiar. A few years older than me but with two daughters almost the same age as my two daughters. Politically, Jo Cox stood for everything I believe in. A staunch supporter of women’s rights. She was pro ’Remain’, pro immigration & an anti-racism campaigner, believing that ”we have far more in common than that

which divides us”. She refused to vote on the Syrian air strikes, instead believing that we could reach a more ethical solution. Before entering politics she worked for Oxfam, which described her as a ”passionate advocate on humanitarian issues”.

I don’t know if Jo’s murder has particularly affected me because of these similarities, or because this happened on my doorstep. All I know is that my heart hurts for her family & friends, who now have to find a way to live without Jo in their lives. But that’s nothing compared to how I feel when I

think of her two beautiful children & the fact that they have to grow up without their precious mummy. It’s not often that I actually cry for people I don’t know, but tonight my tears keep flowing & my heart keeps bleeding. I hope these little girls grow up knowing just what a positive, compassionate & intelligent woman their mother was.

I hugged my own children a little tighter tonight. #ripjocox
