Infant Seat
This is the first seat you buy, for a newborn up. Usually they last until around 13kg or 13-15 months, although I’ve found with my 2 they outgrew it by height much sooner.
It’s important to read the manual and ensure the correct inserts are in place and that the straps are adjusted correctly.
Next Seat up
The next seat you need is often a Group 1 seat.
Legally your child must be rear facing til 15 months in the UK, although it is much safer to rear face until a child is 5 as their pelvis and skeleton are much more developed

Extended Rear Facing (ERF) seats are safer and will last until your child is 4/5 years old. They unfortunately aren’t available at Halfords or many of the high street sellers. Other seats are available that will forward face your child from 15 months. These are tested to the

You should not add ANYTHING to car seats. This includes head supports for children while sleeping and anti escape clips. They have not been crash tested.
