Dear Daughter…

Dear Daughter, don’t grow too fast.
Cry for your milk. Wake me in the night. Make me grumble and stumble to come save you from the dark. Fall asleep in my arms as I stroke your cheek. Feel my heart beating for you.
Dear Daughter, don’t grow too fast.
Play with Barbie dolls and pony’s. Not video games and ipads. Come sit with me. Let’s be dragons and princesses. Play tickle time and dress up. Try on my shoes and wobble around. Brush my hair and paint it in glitter. Snuggle on my knee and settle for a nap. Convince me you’re not tired.

My little dolly will turn into a teenager and I’m not ready for that. Dance on my toes and we’ll spin round in circles, dizzy, belly’s full of laughter. Let’s play fairy forest in the garden. Let’s climb the Faraway Tree. What strange land will we find today?
Dear Daughter, don’t grow too fast.
Let’s have trips to the swings and girls nights in. Let’s paint our nails and make face packs from potions. Let’s go shopping for sparkly dresses and pretty bows. Say ’I don’t remember’ when I ask about your

school day. I’ll catch you out with my clever questions. I’m slowly getting the hang of it, I think.
Dear Daughter, what comes next?
I can’t keep up with your everyday changing. You’re a contradiction. Tough but soft. Strong but dainty. Loud but thoughtful. A fireball of energy who loves peaceful moments. I clutch at the memory of your newborn skin and relish in your everyday milestones.
As you grow, I grow with you.
