Dear teacher, all my thanks
For taking in my child,
For I know she’s quite a handful,
I know she can be wild.
I know she has not yet,
Learned to dress herself,
I know she cannot
Write her name
Like everybody else.
Dear teacher, all my thanks
For all your time and patience,
As you see my daughter throw her pen
And shout out in frustration.
For I know she is not perfect,
I know her words are choice,
I know it’s quite annoying
When she’s testing out her voice.
Dear teacher, all my thanks

As my daughter tries to make friends,
And pulls them all around.
I know she can be bossy,
And a little too forthright;
I know she thinks she knows it all
And argues black is white.
But teacher, she’s just four,
Just turned four this summer,
And her world was turned around,
By her brand new baby brother.
And teacher, she’s so young,
She wants to write her name,
She tries to do it daily,
Time and time again.
And teacher, when she’s bossy,
She’s trying to make her way,

Where she has to stay all day.
She’s only four years old,
And though she’s very tall,
Her understanding of this world,
Is still so very small.

But I promise that with love,
And a little praise,
This feisty little girl,
Will soon do what you say;
Please don’t shout at her,
Please please please recall,
She’s here all day in school,

four.
She’s a lovely little girl,
With a heart that’s made of gold;
A second mother to her brother
At only four years old.
So if you feel annoyed,
When her temper’s in a twirl
Please remember for a minute,
That she’s my little girl.
And whilst she’s in your care,
I’m trying to keep calm
Until 3pm today
When I can hold her in my arms.

I’m a mother of two, soon to be three, and have recently opted to work part-time in order to be a good mother.
I have previously worked as a middle manager in education but am back to focusing on classroom antics as a teacher of English. I love it. I also love to write - poetry and children’s books mainly - but most of all, I love to be present for my children.
I am completely indebted to my husband and own mother for my sanity (I think I can just about call it that, these days).
