OKIDO Magazine is an independent arts and science magazine for young children and their families. Created by parents in 2007, OKIDO is designed to fire up imagination and understanding of art and science. Founders, scientist Dr Sophie Dauvois (PhD BSc PG Dip.) and artist Rachel Ortas are passionate about engaging young children in the scientific world around them through play, art and fun.

Join OKIDO every Friday this summer for a series of Art and Science workshops. Each workshop will be centred around a different topic where we learn about it through discussion, reinforce it with a fun science experiment or make something fun to take home.

Here’s your chance to come and meet the people behind the magazine and the hit TV show ‘Messy goes to OKIDO’, learn something new, take part in some fun activities, and make new friends.

The Summer Club is most suitable for children aged 3-7. These workshops are a great learning environment to satisfy curious little minds through collaboration, curiosity, exploration, creativity, discovery, and critical thinking.

OKIDO has been selected to work with the British Science Association as a facilitator of the Crest Awards, the BSA’s flagship programme for young people. The Awards help to develop a culture of ‘everyday science’, bridging different ways of learning and supporting cross-curricular education.

A star towards one of their Awards can be earned for each hour spent at an OKIDO workshop. This means that if you sign your child up, after 8 of our sessions, they will be eligible for an Award.

WIND – Discover the facts and power of wind and make a windmill to experiment with.

TEETH – Learn all about your teeth, make a set yourself and then play some crazy teeth games.

10.45 – 11.45

THE BODY – Learn all about what’s inside your body and where it lives then create a giant x-ray drawing of yourself.

12.00 – 13.00

BREATHING – Learn all about breathing then make a set of paper bag lungs and a blow-lung game.

14.00 – 15.00

TEETH – Learn all about your teeth, make a set yourself and then play some crazy teeth games.

15.15 – 16.15

ME – learn all about each other and make a book about yourself.

CREEPY CRAWLIES – Learn all about lovely creepy crawlies then make some moving creatures to race.

10.45 – 11.45

ANIMALS – Learn all about the different animal groups then make some cool masks to wear.

MUSIC – Learn all about different instruments and how they work and make some junk instruments to play.

14.00 – 15.00
