Let’s face it; moms are the most celebrated species on the planet. On the other hand, fathers tend to end up with an occasional handshake, perhaps an awkward hug once a sentimental blue moon.

Think about it. Gifting something to your father is probably one of the most brain wrecking tasks you’ve had to do. (Kudos to the people who don’t have this problem).

Somehow, with men, not only are the gifts hard to think of but the emotional gratification is weird too. The most you’ll get is a crooked smile or maybe a nod of recognition.

Here’s your gift guide for fathers day!

This Father’s Day, let’s try to change this forlorn tradition. We have a list of ideas which will make your dad feel special.

Let’s crease out the paper before you wrap up the something, and let’s push him towards smiling a fuller smile.

Go Artsy

Yes. It never fails unless you glue up the wrong sides or stitch inside out! Give your tingling creative side the chance it needs. Print pictures of your dad in his young days, pictures of your family, of moments you’d want to revisit in Polaroid black n’ whites and stick them on a red card paper. Give captions to the pictures and remind him what a stud he was in his days! Take him for a stroll down the memory lane.

Antiques

They have a bevvy of fascinating items, mostly hiding in dingy corners. It’s simply irresistible! Get your dad that rare edition minted coin or an autographed bat or a station clock, they are adorable!

Cook

A way to a man’s heart is via his stomach. We’ve always known that now let’s put it to use. Find out your dad’s favourite cuisine and get cooking! Yes, you can go all the way and use that neat apron. Google the recipes or watch them on YouTube, make sure that you keep an extra hour at the end of last moment disaster management. Cause well, who are we kidding? We love putting the kitchen on fire.

Plan a day

When was the last time you spent an entire day with your dad doing things he loves? It’s hard to remember, right? Need I say that go make it happen? Pronto!

Single Malt

If your dad enjoys an occasional nip or two, do him a dreamy favour this Fathers Day.  Allow him to have his poison, but least give him the best there is. Let him enjoy his drink in the perfect ambience, no stress, just this while. Get him that single malt that he’ll fondly remember for years. Who’s the grown up now?

Splash the cash

If you have saved for the rainy day like a good ‘ol ant, then get him that wonderful massage chair! I promise he’ll never say no to late night partying after that! And now that you are splurging, have you heard of chocolate golf balls? They are a delicious sight!

Everyday things

Parents tend to stick to inexpensive bare minimums and often don’t go out there and get exactly what they what. Your dad may have always wanted that luxurious shaving kit or the sexy all-purpose Swiss knife or those hand-made intricately designed wood carving tools that he never dared to buy. Surprise him by buying it for him, show him you notice you those tiny things. The big man in the house deserves pampering too!

Touch his heart

For years you’ve touched his feet and asked for blessings. It’s time to give something back. Go and hug your dad. Not an awkward, quick one, but an unconditional, long hug.  It will convey all the love you have for your dad and a bit more.  If everything else fails, this is sure to work.
