Getting to the good stuff.

Welcome to the third instalment of my journey to the Edinburgh Festival where myself and my husband (comedian) Rob Rouse are performing in a play ’The Ladder’.

We are taking the whole family up to the festival and are trying not to have a nervous breakdown on the way!

So rehearsals have now begun!

This should be an exciting moment in this journey to Edinburgh. In reality it is a confusing time, the rehearsal space is our living room which now has a set of ladders in it and props and scripts all over the place, our schedule revolves around

dropping kids at school, clubs and play dates and we have no director so no one else to tell us to get on with it when we are eating too many custard creams at break time.

Doing it all on our own, writing, performing, directing and producing is starting to take its toll. I am forgetting simple things, the Guinea pigs are not getting cleaned out and the kids are not practising their spellings as much as they should. There is not a spare minute in the day amongst work, rehearsal and show admin along with all the usual day to day parenting graft and so

sitting down to learn lines after putting the kids to bed does not hold much appeal, but that is exactly what we have to do.

I am hoping that on the other side when the lines are learnt and the posters are sent to the printers we will have the space to enjoy it and play.
As Robs character says in the play,

”Sometimes you have to go through the shit to get to the good stuff on the other side.”

Fingers crossed that next week we get to the good stuff…

house swap has been arranged with a family from Edinburgh!
The fringe brochure has arrived so we can plan what we are going to watch! (Any recommendations gratefully received)

So there is still much to be excited about, it’s just hard remembering that whilst stuck up a ladder, and forgetting your lines, in your own living room.

Now better get back to it!
