I AM full time!

I find mothers who return to work after maternity leave amazing. I also find mothers who do not return to employment, and decide to be stay at home mums, amazing. Some people don’t have the choice. Some do.

I am grateful every single day that I am fortunate enough that I do have that choice, and my choice is to stay at home and look after Millie. I do not believe one way is the better way, I do however find it increasingly frustrating when I am asked ’so when are you returning to work?’ and not ’are you…’.

look after, a happy and content little girl whom thus far has made my ’work’ relatively easy. She’s actually been a dream from word go, and I’m careful what I say as I am sure if and when we have baby number 2, we will not be so fortunate (don’t even get me started on ’when are you having another’).  But some days even with a content little girl, it’s hard work. It’s 24/7 and as a parent you never ever switch off, you seem to live forever on high alert. I do not believe choosing to be a stay at home mum is an easy option – time spent with

adults is limited, every day I feel guilty that I’ve not entertained her enough/played enough games/offered her the best meal (because I’ve cheated with beans on toast because all inspiration is gone)/educated her enough/taken her out enough.

I love my life and am so grateful I get to do exactly what I want to, which is be with Millie. But I certainly don’t expect all Mummies to want to do the same, so why does everyone expect me to want to return to full time employment? I Am full time?!

I find mothers who return to work after maternity leave amazing. I also find mothers who do not return to employment, and decide to be stay at home mums, amazing. Some people don’t have the choice. Some do.
