WHAT ABOUT A WARDROBE DETOX?

1
So there seems to be a trend at the moment. Everybody is detoxing, maxing out on Kale and Chia Seeds. Detoxing from the usual offenders Alcohol, Sugar, wheat etc.
But what about the repeat offenders in our wardrobe that we need a detox from? The jeans that are just that tiny bit too tight that we might fit into soon. The maternity dress that is good for our fat days. The party dress we haven’t worn since 2011. Well I say… NO! No to them all.

There is a serious movement going on at the moment about being Mindful. Being conscious of our lives in

living in the moment. The rules are that less is more. If we simplify and de-clutter we can truly focus on what works in our lives and respect the place that each of our carefully edited possessions do for us.

Wardrobe detoxing is all about being mindful about our clothes. It is super easy to do and if you’ve fallen out of love with your clothes… it can make you fall right back in love with them.

Like many of you, time is limited in my house in the morning with two little people also demanding my time, so having a well edited and organised

wardrobe makes getting dressed the joy that it should be. I can easily pull out items that will look good, because I’ve got rid of all the clothes that don’t.
After having kids, it’s easy to forget about our wardrobes. We don’t pay the same attention to them as we once did. We don’t have time, for instance, to spend ages organising our clothes in colour order. We don’t go on long lazy shopping trips. We rarely have enough time to get dressed in the morning. Let alone think of an actual outfit.
Having space in your wardrobe allows you to

shop within your wardrobe, one of my favourite activities. If you give your clothes a chance to breathe on their hangers (like in a boutique), they’ll look so much more appealing to wear. Getting dressed happily starts your day off on the right foot.
Jemima’s guide to Wardrobe Detoxing:
1. The best way to go about this is to clear a whole day, yes a luxury but a whole day is what’s needed to go through and re-evaluate what actually works for your life-style now. Make a date of it, ask your partner to help with the kids, or if your kids are old

enough, enlist them to help you!
2. Ok, so to fully Detox you need to work out what to keep. Try it all on and work out what suits and what doesn’t you have to be brutal. Get rid of things that simply don’t flatter/work or are showing the perils of the washing machine. It doesn’t matter if it is Prada it is Old tatty Prada, thus you are what you wear.
3. Then we can work out what to store. There are some pieces that can be kept in rotation, knits should be stored in summer in vacuum packed bags or plastic tubs. Dry clean winter coats and dresses

and pack away in the same manner. You will feel so much better when you can actually see and look at your clothes. I know this may sound like an effort but rotating your summer and winter clothes will give you space! It takes half an hour to store things away but will feel so good on a daily basis.
4. Ok, so once we have decided what doesn’t flatter or work with our lifestyle. I have just parted ways with lots of beautiful designer shoes with a certain Rouge sole because I couldn’t walk further than the house to the taxi.  With two girls in tow I

would rather spend the money on a super chic pair of day flats from Charlotte Olympia so I can feel chic everyday not once a year.
5. So Sell, Sell the things that don’t work, Ebay, Vestaire and local car boots are brilliant places to offload your unwanted threads. There is nothing better than having shopping money from clothes you have sold. Guilt free shopping almost priceless.
6. Final stage is to splurge. Now you have space and great items that work for you, you can see where the gaps are and what needs to be brought so your beautifully edited

So go forth Detox. Its as easy as A, B, C…
