Let’s start a movement

1
How do you start a movement? I’d like to start one about hair. I know I know not the most political movement but I do. I want people to have their natural hair. I’m so sick of people straightening their hair when it’s curly or dying it when it’s grey. Let’s be ourselves. Be who we are meant to be and be proud.

I’ve dyed my hair my whole life. I thought my colour was boring but now as I get older I realise it’s the colour that suits me best. I’d love to go back but now I’m going grey and god forbid I show it. Nobody in their 30’s

lets their grey hair show and I think that’s sad. Really sad. There’s no shame in it. I actually think being a silver fox is a good thing. I think people with a little salt and pepper are beautiful. It shows experience and depth and I think it’s rather sexy. Yet we’ve all been told that only youth is beautiful. That you must look 25 for the rest of your life. You can’t possibly have grey hair. You’ll be an outcast. Your figure can’t possibly change after children either oh no. You must snap back to your former self immediately and the

faster you do it the more you’re praised. How sad is that. How much pressure to put on young mums when they are struggling with the change of life as it is.

I’ve had two children and I’ve never pinged back. If anything I’m much bigger than I was and for years I’ve been made to feel bad about it but why? I haven’t done anything wrong. In fact I’ve done two amazing things right. I’ve grown and given birth to two beautiful children who bring so much joy to all around them. I should be proud of my body. This is the best thing it has ever

done and will ever do. Why do I want to look like I haven’t done it? Yes we should all try and be fit and healthy and believe me I try but that should be a personal choice not a forced one. I believe there is no beauty in perfection. What makes us beautiful is the differences we have. Be it your body, hair, wrinkles, scars or stories. So let’s stop with the dying of hair, the straightening, the pressure to be slim. Let’s just be ourselves because we are truly amazing the way we are. Let’s start that movement. I’m 100% behind you. Wonderful you.
