I’m half way through maternity leave so I’m at home a lot with a baby and a three year old. As I’m getting closer to going back, I’ve had lots of thoughts and feelings about work and motherhood. Mainly- the weird way that we treat motherhood/parenthood like it has no influence on how we work. But it does! So much! Not only in terms of hours worked or childcare fees or women in positions of power (although these are all super important conversations we should be having) but also in terms of the skills we bring. professional selves I don’t know (wait I do) but we shouldn’t!
Enough is enough. We know motherhood is undervalued, underpaid and undermined, so I’m calling for a Mum revolution where we embrace the skills and knowledge we’ve gained from parenting and apply them to our (paid) work-loud and proud. Despite what a random man on the internet told me-motherhood is work. Beautiful, challenging, boring, fabulous, hilarious work.
With all that in mind I’ve devised some post-Mum revolution answers to some common interview questions.
