Mum work is real work
Enough is enough. We know motherhood is undervalued, underpaid and undermined, so I’m calling for a Mum revolution where we embrace the skills and knowledge we’ve gained from parenting and apply them to our (paid) work-loud and proud. Despite what a random man on the internet told me-motherhood is work. Beautiful, challenging, boring, fabulous, hilarious work.
With all that in mind I’ve devised some post-Mum revolution answers to some common interview questions.
This position is subject to external oversight and scrutiny-can you tell us about your experience of this?
GIRL. I’m a woman. Who is also a mother. I live and breathe external scrutiny
How do you balance priorities?
I’ve wiped a bum whilst breastfeeding 😎
How well do you work under pressure?
Have you ever tried to get two kids out of the house on time?
Can you tell us about when you’ve had to negotiate and persuade?
Do they take biscuits?
Tell us a time about when you’ve been creative.
Literally everyday coming up with craft
We’re looking for someone with bags of enthusiasm, talk us through a time you’ve demonstrated this
I’ve cheerily mopped up sick in a lay by and I’m basically a children’s T.V presenter from 7am. Every day. All day.
And finally… can you tell us about a time when you’ve overcome challenges?
Mate. I’ve given birth.
So next time you’re in an interview situation feel free to whip out this cheat sheet-after all, Mum work is real work.
