Our 2019 summer trip to France

1
I’ve been lucky enough to come to France twice already this year, once with my nephew to bring my mum back for the summer and to open up the holiday home, and then again with my nephew and Tom and James where we spent a week together having fun in the sun . This time we came as the family of 4 and met my sister, her husband and her family and we spent a wonderful 5 days together playing in the garden, playing cricket, eating good food, visiting the night markets, and of course indulging in the delights of the French wine – after all we are in the

Garonne region.

One of our favourite things to do when we visit here in the summer is to visit the night markets as they’re filled with stalls and places to eat. We can often be found eating ’moules-frites’ and drinking the local wine. It is such a great idea having these night markets as it gives an opportunity for the community to come together, sit outdoors, listen to French music and catch up with friends.

During our visit this year we visited many beautiful cities and places, including Carcassonne, Toulouse and Rocamadour. Carcassonne is a

beautiful medieval city located only a couple of hours from where we stay. The star of the show here is the citadel which is a historic castle-like defence system – the boys loved it as they felt like they had moved back in time.

Rocamadour is a picturesque little town not too far from the holiday home. It is spectacular as it is all built on the side of a cliff. Its hard to imagine until you see a picture of it, and

visiting it was amazing. Theres also a bird of prey park there which means we often saw spectacular birds sharing through the sky. The boys were in awe of the whole town as they’d never seen anything like it before.

My uncle and his family live and work in Toulouse and so we got to visit his business and spend the day wandering around the city and I even managed a little trip to Ikea where I purchased some things for our holiday home. Our

intention is to renovate the property and layout house over the next 5 to 10 years and it may even take longer for us to do – it’s certainly going to be a labour of love . This family home has already been in our family for 29 years and we plan to keep it in the family for generations to come as its our ’go to place’ and we all love coming to this beautiful part of the world. I strongly recommend visiting any of these places if you get the chance – I’ve linked some information pages below if you ever think about going.

We’re so lucky to have a second home in such a beautiful place like the Lot-et-Garonne region. It’s a place with lots of history, traditional towns and villages, and lots of fresh produce. So close to where we are, we have the vineyards of Bergerac and Bordeaux, meaning the wine is fresh and tastes amazing. The fields of sunflowers and corn make for a beautiful setting even if you’re just heading to the shops.

This summer has been wonderful and we’ve created so many more amazing memories with our family.
