Review: Martinhal Beach Resort
1
The lowdown: Martinhal Beach Resort in Portugal, 5 minutes from Sagres and a fairly easy, 90 minutes from Faro airport. I went with my husband Matt and daughters, Tallulah, 3 and Scarlett, 1.
Why we visited: For a true break away from the usual routine of life, where each member of the family gets to do what they want to do plus spend time together as a whole.
The setting was: A self catering villa with a pool at the Martinhal Beach Resort with a hotel, kids club, restaurants, bar, swimming pools, spa and sports facilities. It’s a perfect family

holiday setting but still retains the sense of style that you’d have looked for in a hotel before you had children.
What we did: My husband went surfing, I went to the spa and the children went to kids club every morning before meeting for lunch and spending the afternoons at the beach together.
Holiday highlight: Family trips to the beach at Salema and amazing seafood at what Tallulah called the trampoline restaurant (As Dunas restaurant at the Martinhal). We could keep an eye on our eldest playing on the trampoline while a child minder looked

after our youngest…. and we could actually enjoy a glass of wine in peace.
I loved it because: Sometimes a holiday can feel a little like the same routine in a different location but this place really gave us all a chance to recharge in our own way and then enjoy time together even more.
The kids loved it because: They thoroughly enjoyed the kids club and loved splashing around in the pool every day.
Why I’d recommend: Many family friendly hotels with kids clubs look far more appealing to the children than the adults. This isn’t anything

like that. It’s a beautiful, stylish setting that’s more about the family as a whole.
