The lowdown: A long weekend in NYC, staying at The James hotel, Soho – with my husband, Jamie.
Why we visited: My sister-in-law was getting married in the botanical gardens in Central Park so my husband and I took the opportunity of leaving our two children behind with their grandparents so that we could enjoy a luxurious child free weekend. We booked The James as we love Soho and wanted something a little decadent as time for just the two of us is quite a rarity these days. The James certainly ticked all the boxes and the rooftop pool was a big

bonus.
The setting: The James is the tallest building in the neighbourhood which made navigating home very easy. The hotel has only been open a few years but is still the new kid on the block. All the spaces throughout the hotel are curated with one of a kind works of art from up-and-coming artists. There is a great lounge area where complimentary coffee and pastries are served in the morning, wine and cheese early evening and cookies before bed.
What we did: We mooched around the lovely shopping streets in Soho, Chelsea and the Meat Packing

District, picking up a few purchases along the way (we never get to ’mooch’ these days). Hired Citibikes, which was fantastic, Manhattan is a great place to cycle (nice and flat). Walked the High Line, a park on a historic freight rail line on Manhattan’s West Side. We also managed to meander from one nice restaurant/bar to another – particular favourites: Lupes for amazing burritos, Delicatessen for the irresistible mac n cheese from the macbar menu (9 different types) and The Marrow for a sophisticated evening treat. Oh and we went to the wedding,

of course, which was beautiful.
Holiday highlight: It has to be Jimmy, the rooftop bar and pool in our hotel. It has amazing 360 views of the skyline of manhattan. It was perfect for relaxing on a sun lounger and an early morning dip first thing before the DJ and hipsters arrived in the afternoon for a lively pool party while we supped our mojitos.
I loved it because: It was amazing to have a carefree weekend with no worries about routines, bedtimes and tantrums. It was also lovely to carry a small handbag that wasn’t wedged full of nappies,

packets of emergency raisins and a Spider-Man or two. New York is a city that you can never tire of no matter how many times you have been.
Why I’d recommend: Great rooms with an exceptionally comfy bed and lovely toiletries by Intelligent Nutrients. Attentive staff. They have a town car that you can use on weekdays which is great for short trips. There is a tasty restaurant on the ground floor which in the summer has a tranquil garden for al fresco dining.
Oh and have I mentioned the rooftop bar and pool?!
