The dog is looking depressed.

Welcome to episode 4 in my blog series which tells the story of my journey to the Edinburgh festival with my husband and family in tow.
So we have made it through another week! The lines have now been learnt and we are starting to understand why we took on this ridiculous challenge… It is actually quite fun!
There are some drawbacks to rehearsing at home though. The builders, the neighbours and the dog are our first unknowing audience and are understandably confused by the noises coming from our living room.
The play begins with my character

Clare getting her finger trapped in a set of decorating ladders. She calls on her husband Ian (played by my real life husband comedian Rob Rouse) for help and they go on to laugh, shout and cry with each other whilst waiting for the emergency services.
Although we can explain all of the noises that we are making to the builders and the neighbours (and hopefully allay their concerns for my saftety) we cannot do the same for the dog, who is getting most upset by the shouts for help in particular.
I think he thinks we are going through a messy break

up and is behaving very strangely, wanting to be with us at all times and laying in the middle of the rehearsal space with a sad look on his face.
As we don’t have a director in the room it is quite nice having someone else in there with us… even if it is a sad dog!
The kids are getting involved too, testing us on our lines (only scenes without swearing in of course!) and they have even been given a job while we are up in Edinburgh. Rob’s stand up show is on a pay what you want basis and the kids have asked if they can hold the donations

bucket at the end! So negotiations are underway and they are currently trying to haggle their fee, as they are well aware that they will boost donations with their cute factor.
I am for the first time actually really excited about the whole thing!
Lets hope that it all doesn’t come crashing down next week…
…and that the dog cheers up a bit.
