The never ending battle with…hair!

1
So this morning as usual, I got my first born to school ’just in time’ (see also: when the school bell was coming to an end to signal the kids through the door).

Not only did I manage to make it to school borderline late, I also did so with very questionable hair…as per to be honest.

The reason being I’d started to give my wild mane (no other words for it) the GHD treatment without realising I didn’t actually have enough time to do my FULL head before getting Alex to school.

So I left the house with what can only be described as a half

straight half wild/frizzy/untamed up do and no make up. And on the way home, having clocked myself in the car mirror looking horrific it dawned on me that I am in a CONSTANT bloody battle with my hair!

In fact, I am pretty sure it comes with the territory of being a woman to be in this losing position with your bonce and my poor Eve is likely going to feel this pain herself as she grows up. Sorry Babe x

sure I am not alone in this dream.

As soon as my teenage hormones kicked in, my hair went absolutely mental and no amount of Frizz Ease related products could tame it (believe me I tried them all). I’ve been fighting grey since I was 23. As quick as I dye the offending strands, they’re back with avengence and the older I get the more I find in random places about my head. My husband and brother, however, seem to be immune from attack of the grey. Why is that?

Yes, I benefited from pregnancy manes with both my bambinos…but within weeks of birth

I’ve lost hair in clumps whilst gaining that side-spiky new baby hair that cannot be tamed. Incapable of doing a decent blow dry myself, I rely on the expert curly blow services of my hairdressers or my sister (who’s also a Doctor by the way. Starting to charge for excellent bouncy blow drys is her back up plan if Jeremy Hunt does actually get his way and F things up for Junior Doctors).

Do not talk to me about the love-hate relationship I have with holiday heat…humidity is not my friend. I’ve never looked glamourous in the hair stakes whilst

in warmer climes, except possibly on my Ibiza wedding day due to the MEGA amounts of hair products and pins applied pre-ceremony. Monica Gellar & Kate Middleton (2012 South East Asia tour hair-gate) I feel your pain. Exercise hair is also an absolute nightmare. How do Khloe Kardashian and the Soul Cycle lot actually work out without a hair being out of place??

And then there’s the other hair we women have to maintain religiously and with much pain, might I add. The stuff not on the top of our head. For example, I once overheard someone I

Oh the joys of being a dark brunette hey.

However despite all of this, I am incredibly grateful to have a strong wild head of hair, showing that I am healthy & my body is working the way it should. We unfortunately know only too well how illness and trauma can so badly affect hair…something which for so many women is such

an outward sign of our femininity. I have such utter respect for women (and men) who maintain a positive attitude and confidence having lost their hair due to chemo and other medications or anxiety and stress, for example.

Ladies, here’s to many more years of being in a healthy battle with our hair – but please god, if anyone has details of a hair product that will make my head look half decent for the school run on Monday morning…let me know x
