The Sound of One Trainer Flying!

This morning I didn’t think it was too complicated a request when I said, ‘Bubba can you nip into the kitchen and get me my trainers please?’

With the new ‘very logical thinking Bubba’ we’ve learnt to be very specific with our instructions especially after the other day when ‘The Wife’ asked him to ‘drink your juice and take your plate to Mummy’.

‘How can I do that? I can’t do that’ he pointed out as she realised he’d taken her very literally and was trying to carry his dirty dinner plate to me and drink at the same

time!!

But anyway, this morning I thought I was being fairly direct but this is how it played out….

‘What do you mean?’

By the way, this is his new response to EVERYTHING and it’s driving me and ‘The Wife’ mad. ‘Bubba can you eat your tea’… ‘what do you mean?’, ‘Bubba can you brush your teeth?’… ‘what do you mean?’ EVERYTHING!! But I repeated my question ‘can you fetch my trainers from the kitchen please?’

At this point he did run off and in the direction of the kitchen too so I was feeling optimistic until

there came the bellow of  ‘What do you need?’

‘My trainers please’

‘Where are they?’

Again, I gave what I thought were simple instructions, as I was now losing the will to live and wishing I’d just got my flaming trainers myself but once you’ve asked Bubba to do something he has to fulfil the task, even if you change your mind, otherwise ‘meltdown town’.

Simple directions given responded with –  ‘What do you mean?’

‘My trainers. In kitchen. Bring please’

‘ Do you mean your trainers?’

‘Yes.’ Now I

think I’m was doing pretty well at staying calm at this point especially as Bubba will have had to walk past my trainers to get into the kitchen and Squeak was sat between my legs trying to shove cars down my top and make me eat Postman Pat!

Finally I heard the satisfied cry of ‘these ones?’ as one trainer came flying down the hallway.  Well I suppose I didn’t actually tell him to put my trainers in my hand!

And I guess the moral of today’s story is – ‘If I want something doing, it will always be quicker to get up off my ass and do
