The Twelve Week Rule

I’m pregnant. Pregnant despite the fact that my periods had all but disappeared thanks to PCOS. This is good news. This is great news! But apparently I’m not allowed to tell anyone.
I’m pregnant. Pregnant and suffering with that horrid thing Princess Kate had (which I cannot spell) and was nearly hospitalised a few days ago. I’m struggling. Really struggling. But apparently I’m not allowed to tell anyone.
In fact, I’m not just not allowed to tell. I have to somehow actively lie every time somebody asks me how I am. I’m over the moon, because

against the odds I’m pregnant. I’m exhausted and sick because this baby is stirring up a storm in my stomach. ’I’m fine thanks, how are you?’. I’m terrible at lying.
Who decided on this twelve week rule anyway? I know you’re more likely to miscarry in those first twelve weeks, but who decided that we weren’t allowed to tell people about that as well? I understand that some people prefer to keep these things private, but I’d rather have support than suffer in silence if the worst was to happen. And in the meantime, I’d rather people share in

our good news and understand why I might need a little extra help looking after my toddler while I’m puking up my guts in the next room.
I say screw the twelve week rule. I’m pregnant! Hooray! Now pass me a bucket.
