As a mother of three children. Try is my main mantra.

Try to balance my time spent with them as individuals. Try to avoid ‘Middle child Syndrome’ Try to avoid strangers who make the two eldest boys feel as if they were created whilst trying for a girl. Try to avoid parenting the girl differently. Try to avoid parenting the boys differently. I have been trying at parenting since 2009.

Try as the definition states so clearly –to attempt to do or accomplish. That is what I do every day as a parent, I try. Sometimes I get it wrong, sometimes I get it right and the rest of the time, I am trying.

Trying to do the right thing, trying to get it right. But as long as I am trying than I think everything is and will be ok.

I grew up as one of three, the balance and dynamics that three create is interesting. The definition of tri: a combining form meaning three. That sums up three children, three siblings wonderfully…a combining form.

It is the combination that creates the interest, the dynamics and creates opportunities to learn or try at learning the art of inter-personal relationships.

One child is hard, two children are hard, and three children are hard. Having three children is not about playing children top trumps, although it sometimes feels like that is projected on to me, children top trumps is certainly not a game I am playing. My own childhood memories shaped my desire to try for three children and I am lucky enough that after riding the rollercoaster of trying and trying not to try we got number three. The final piece in our combing form.

When you are outnumbered by your children, divide & conquer is the main parenting strategy to deploy. However our children seemed to have been fitted with magnets, forcing each other back to within a metre square of each other and when tired, grumpy and hungry the magnets seem stronger. Yet we keep trying, trying not to fail, trying our best and as long as we are doing that, I think everything is and will be ok.
