What would I tell a new mum? Mama have patience.

1
Mama, have patience. You might feel like you’ve lost who you are. That your life is on repeat. That you have spent weeks, months, years dreaming about being a mum and now you are one, you feel guilty that you are longing for the days when you slept longer than 90 minutes at a time and managed to have a shower every day.

Mama, have patience. It’s going to take time. You’ll need to navigate sleepless nights, illnesses, changes in routine, many, many dirty nappies and inexplicable crying (you and baby). It will feel

painfully slow but one day you’ll realise, it’s gone so fast. You might feel lost, like you only exist to look after this amazing, frustrating, bundle of joy, but have patience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mama, have patience. Your baby will change you. She will change your perspective and make you see the world in a different way. She will show you that you have a capacity to love more than you ever knew. She will make you passionate about things you didn’t even know were an issue. knew, but it is temporary, it’s not forever.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mama, have patience. A time will come when the newborn days are over and the rhythm of day-to-day life will fill you with joy not fear.

Mama, have patience. You will find *you* again. It won’t be the same as the old you but you’ll find a space you can be yourself in and it will feel good.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mama, you’ll find yourself again but it will take time, just have patience.
