When there is no village

1
People say it takes a village to raise a child. Or children. What if you simply don’t have that? You have family but they chose not to be in your Children’s Lives.

I haven’t spoken to my mother for 3-4 years  she doesn’t even know I have a daughter as well as my son. My son is getting to an age where he will ask where they are. What do I say? My standard line is they are on holiday. That won’t cut it forever I know that!

I’ve thought about getting in touch. But for my wellbeing it wouldn’t be the right thing to do at the

moment.

Do I miss her, or the person she used to be when I was growing up? I think about that a lot.

I saw 3 generations of a family in the hairdressers the other day. The mother was caring for her grandchild whilst her daughter had her hair cut. It made me sad. But my lovely husband came home early so I could go and get my hair cut.

Everyone knows raising children isn’t easy. It’s funny and frustrating and hard but ultimately the rewards are just magic.

We don’t have a village, but we have each other, it’s more like a tiny hamlet I

suppose!

So for now things remain the same, and I remain upbeat and positive. My children are beautiful and happy, what more could I ask for.
