WHY PRINTS ROCK

1
Let me share a style secret. Or more a ’getting dressed’ secret… PRINTS. That’s the secret. Okay, so it may not sound like an earth-shattering revelation to you. It’s not like you’ve never heard of them before. BUT, I think prints may often be bypassed by those who haven’t yet been enlightened to the all-round wardrobe miracle that is a good print.

Prints are a wardrobe fix for any woman (like me) who wants to:

a) get dressed quickly
b) look vaguely stylish
c) seem like I’ve made an effort
d) feel in some way interesting
e) be clawed

by kids without it showing

The latter point is important, because the joy of a good print is that it is so busy it doesn’t show up kid-dirt. It looks good even when it’s not pristenely clean. In fact it doesn’t just look good, it looks GREAT.

You can throw something print-ish on in nanoseconds and the print – as they say – does ’all the work.’ It grabs attention, it beckons the eye, it makes you look like you’ve made an effort – without actually making much of an effort other than choosing a good print. well the print has to be worth showing off. I’ve tried and tested this theory over the last few years and obvious though it may sound, any-old print won’t do. You can’t do print for prints’ sake).

My tip is to fill your wardrobe will several printed things – a printed scarf to throw round your neck, a printed top to throw on with jeans, a printed coat to throw over anything etc. And, once you have your print repertoire, alternate them on a daily basis (or print clash if you really want to go for it). Your wonderful printed item will detract from

all your other sins (tired eyes, unwashed hair) like a shining stylish beacon as well as making you look like you posses innate-style brilliance. Which, of course, you do.

You see…? Prints rock.

My top 5 prints
1. Leopardprint: this will never date, so it’s worth investing in great leopard pieces
2. Checks: v hot right now, see Julia Rebaudo’s 3 Ways here
3. Camouflage: A current favourite but only if worn in small doses (like a scarf)
4. Modernist: block shapes in bright colours work brilliantly
5. Florals: large winter blooms look great
