WHAT THEY DO: Women for Women International is an amazing charity that helps women in 8 war-torn regions rebuild their lives through training programmes. They give women the skills, resources and knowledge to create positive sustainable change for herself, her family and community. They connect women in the UK with women in their programmes through their sponsorship programme, with letters of inspiration between sponsors and their sisters criss-crossing the globe.

WHY WE LOVE THEM:

Develop health & well-being
Influence decisions in their homes & communities
Help women create & connect to networks for support

They not only invest in but celebrate these strong, courageous and resilient women, and those who support them. They recognise the vital contributions that all women make – not just because women’s voices and achievements are so often unheard and overlooked – but because they believe elevating women strengthens the social fabric of societies everywhere. Ultimately stronger women build stronger nations. We think they’re awesome and want them to help even more women!

SM DONATIONS: As of Feb 2017, we’ve now donated over £515K to our chosen charities, including £148,383 donated over to Women for Women UK alone!

SM SUPPORTS: We have raised enough to sponsor 299 women through the charity’s yearlong training programme in countries such as Rwanda, Kosovo and Afghanistan. The women we have sponsored have learned vocational skills so they can earn money to support themselves and their families. They have learned the importance of hygiene and nutrition and how to prevent disease. They have learned about their rights, including their right to vote, their right to own land, and their right to custody of their children. They have also made priceless friendships to break the isolation brought about by war.

Molly Gunn is the founder and editor of Selfish Mother, a site she created for like-minded women in 2013. Molly has been a journalist for over 15 years, starting out working on fashion desks at The Guardian, The Telegraph & ES Magazine before going freelance in 2006 to write for quality publications. She now edits Selfish Mother, sells #GoodTees to raise funds for charity, & writes freelance for Red Magazine and The Sunday Telegraph's Stella. Molly is mother to Rafferty, 6, Fox, 4, and baby Liberty. She is married to Tom aka music producer Tee Mango and founder of Millionhands. They live in Bruton, Somerset.
