The Day in the life of a Shoe

1
Six months I spent in that dark dingy box.
Smothered in paper and the occasional pop sock.

Glimpses of daylight would soon disappear.
I was carried back to the stock room by the cashier.

Apparently I was for a expensive taste.
I was tight like some customers and a terrible waste.

I tried not to cry and dampen my sole but all I ever wanted was a to take a stroll.

The furthest I’d go was to the mirror on the wall.
The big feet inside me said I was small.

That was the last time I heeled and cried as what came after I took in my

stride.

“I need shiny black courts in a size four”.
That was me! I’d made it – back to the shop floor.

Her toes wiggled inside me making me laugh.
“These are the ones!” she said to the staff.

My innersole suddenly felt better deep inside.
I felt so happy I could have easily cried.

The tongues were all wagging that day I was chose,
I’d left with a lady in immaculate clothes.

I shone bright that day in my pretty tissue.
I was the one – the shiny black shoe.

I was swung in a bag for the rest of the day.
An excited

purchase on her first payday.

I arrived to the place I would forever call home,
I couldn’t wait for my chance to have a roam.

A hand unpacked me and a foot slid in.
I fitted like a small glove around her skin.

Being shiny my skin was tough so she put on some larger socks and got really rough.

She sat with a hairdryer on full blast,
Scorching hot heat hitting me fast.

‘Apparently’ this was the way to soften my leather,
To make me feel softer and more like a feather.

I don’t think it worked though as she walked rather odd and

with every step she took she mumbled “oh god”.

My leather sole really hurt whilst being worn in;
Battered and scratched like her poor skin.

You see, the floors indoors were fluffy and thick,
Not like the walk to work on paving and brick.

One thing I’ll mention though which makes quite sad,
Especially when I see your face looking so glad….

I wait all day for the comfort of our floor,
But, thats when I’m kicked off and thrown by the door.

I yearn for that moment when I’ll be worn all night,
Keeping your feet warm once you

turn off the light.

A few months have now past – it’s December the first.
The worry you’ll replace me has got much worst.

I watched you get ready in your sparkling clothes,
Then by surprise I felt your toes!

We went to the mirror for a quick glance.
Happy and excited we began to dance.

A celebration, a work party, a Christmas do,
And the best thing about it, I came along too!

We entered the party where we boogied all night,
Spinning and high kicking in bright disco light.

We slid down banisters and did squat drops,

with dancing on the high table tops.

The evening went fast and the lights came on.
Everyone around us was having a yawn.

We jumped in a taxi and was soon at our door.
The last bit of the story surprised me much more…

I was lead up the stairs and into your bed and kept on all night whilst you rested your head.
