Diary of a Threenager; A Trip to Daylesford

1
Friday mornings during the Summer consisted of glorious sun-drenched hours in the park. Now Autumn is upon us Mummy has taken a different approach with regular trips to the farm shop. By farm shop I mean Daylesford Farm Shop. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have been to many a farm shop in my time, sometimes there are animals to look at, sometimes I get a little treat to go home with, but they have never really excited me, until I stepped foot in Daylesford that is…
Grandma, Mummy and I climbed into the car and I could feel the excitement rising before we

made it past the stone circle, but when we got there… Well… CHRISTMAS HAD ARRIVED. There were trees everywhere, baubles, geese made from chocolate OMG I just didn’t know where to look. Mummy loitered in the entrance hall holding some weird giant vegetable that looked like a squashed sun-bleached pumpkin… Halloween is over woman. I was halfway up the stairs before she even noticed where I had got to. It’s not my first time, Dear Reader, I knew EXACTLY where the toys were. I would like to add that they tried to trick me last time by MOVING them…

but I sniffed them out alright… those giant bunnies have my name on.

I ran straight through that boring section where all the plates and platters and stuff are piled high. Mummy kept hissing at me to slow down, I wonder if it’s because she wasn’t feeling very well, she kept staring at the piles of plates and went a funny shade of green each time they wobbled. It reminded me of that game Jenga, shame none fell over, that would have been really funny!

I made it to the toy section and for a little bit I was disappointed that I couldn’t see my

favourite toy, the little old ladies’ trolley. Mummy finally caught up (looking less green) and started idly looking at Christmas crackers while I searched the shelves. Then I saw it, some silly person had shoved loads of boring things in it, don’t they know it’s to put pretty things in? I quickly emptied the display onto the floor and collected the cute soft toys, some wooden ball and cups and a selection of dog and bird bingo games to pile on top. Mummy had just chosen her Christmas crackers when she saw the game I was planning. She couldn’t wait

to join in, I don’t blame her, I’m the best at making up games. The object was for me to run as fast as I could, pulling the old lady trolley and trying not to drop anything. Mummy had to run after me picking up any toys I did drop. Anything she could catch she could keep. She was rubbish, she didn’t really get the gist at all, she kept trying to talk to me, which of course I couldn’t hear because I was squealing with excitement!! I was fast, I swerved out of the toy section and into this pretty area with all these giant glass vases, I did a few laps

of that until I began to feel a little dizzy so had to rest near these boring looking jugs to steady myself. Sadly, Mummy caught up, looking green again, I’m wondering if she is coming down with something. She seemed cross too, must be because she lost.

Grandma suggested we popped to the café. I didn’t really feel ready but can never say no to a snack, and Mummy still seemed on edge, she probably needed caffeine. The menu largely had boring healthy things on it. Mummy was salivating over weird sounding smoothies, seriously, kale??? Who wants to

drink something that looks like snot? I was just about to find the toys again when the waitress said the words ’Pain Au Chocolate’ Well I didn’t spend a summer in France for nothing… I demanded one and of course Grandma caved… It was good, so good, I wiped some over my face for later, well, who can say when I will get anything that good again.

I really wanted to see the fountain then, but Mummy said she really wanted to do some Christmas shopping, but if I stayed very close to her and was very good then I could see the fountain afterwards. Well

I have been good all day so couldn’t really work out the need for that remark. She strolled around popping things in her basket, saying something about stocking fillers to Grandma which I thought odd as everyone knows Santa does stockings. I figured she needed a bit of help so added the odd chocolate treat in there for good measure.

We paid before heading to the fountain, Mummy went green AGAIN when she saw the price, and had to take all my treats out and asked them to remove them from the bill. Boring. Maybe it’s an allergy to chocolate?? I ran

ahead to get away from her, if it was a bug I didn’t want to catch it. I had to run through the flower shop bit to get to the fountain. I like the smell in there. Grandma obviously does too because she spent ages in there while I ran in circles around the fountain. It was fun taking my shoes off and trying to throw them in… Sadly, I missed, need to practice more. Mummy told me Santa won’t come if I got my shoes all wet… does he have a foot phobia?

It was almost time to go home, I was sad, but I did want to get to preschool. Luckily Grandma

wanted to look at the clothes section before we left. I really wanted this cute robin jumper. I asked Grandma, she usually likes buying me clothes. She picked it up and looked at the little tag thing then suddenly SHE went green and told me not to get my face anywhere near it. Why would I put a jumper on my face, it goes on my tummy? There was definitely something wrong with the grown-ups today.

We got into the car and started to drive off, they were silent, think all that shopping tired them out… good job I had the door to play with… now I would
