Heart-shaped Christmas ornament

In recent weeks, with Christmas creeping up there’s been a lot of talk of Christmas lists, present buying and so on amongst me and my friends.

Last night we were all Whats app-ing (from our sofas, draped in dressing gowns and eating chocolate instead of being out on the town as we all were pre kids) discussing Christmas.

My son is done for Christmas. Less than £100 we’ve spent on him. We’ve got some absolute bargains it’s

Train set on special at Ikea for £7, PJ masks toys scanned through as £1.80 instead of £8 (sale price, should of been £13)(kept quiet and legged it out the shop ha) a few games, new utensils for his kitchen in the hope he’ll leave mine alone and a couple of other bits. My friend questioned last night, is that all I’m spending on him?

I thought it’s not what I’m spending, it’s what he needs and what he’ll play with! I could keep going, there are other things he likes or

things that I think he’d like but why bother when he doesn’t NEED anything. He has things he got from 2 christmases ago that are immaculate and he still plays with daily. Even when other people ask me what he wants I tell them (not to bother or) to get vouchers because they’re handy and come in use all year around. I’d rather that than they get him some toy that just fills up more cupboard space when they’re already bursting!

I just don’t get the urge to splurge come Christmas and nor should I feel guilty because in my eyes I’m just

being sensible. But I do feel crappy sometimes and that there’s pressure to go wild!

Birthdays now too. £300 for a soft play party inc cake, party bags etc?! Not for me that. I just can’t justify spending that kind of money on him and his friends running wild and some scabby sandwiches, some tinned hot dogs and a few chips. For my sons 3rd birthday we got a Air BnB for 2 nights and went to the Sea Life Centre and Chester Zoo, which for those 3 things cost the same as a party. Seeing his little face watching the Giraffes and Elephants was

amazing. We got a few days away, bit of family time for the same cost as seeing his little sweaty head run around soft play which we do most weeks anyway!

All my friends joke and say I’m nasty but no, I’m not ha. We had a wonderful time away, just us 3, away from the monotony of every day life and routine. That’s more of a special thing to me than ball pools!

Plus I’m getting while I’m getting away with a cheaper Christmas while he’s little before the games consoles and the pricey stuff starts making its way in to the want list,
