Can we take a moment to big up the Mother in laws!
Often referred to as the Monster In Law because, really they can be a bloody monster!
Three serious boyfriends, first mother in law was horrendous! No love lost between either of us. Total mummys boy that one though! He was a great lad, his whole family were just WEIRD though! I really wonder how he turned out so ’normal’. I’d go as far as saying they really were horrible people! Just made our relationship a nightmare!

Next boyfriend, his Mum was nice! We still keep in touch now but she was a bit

of a worrier but she had every reason to be, this bloke was a closed book when it come to his parents, told them nothing, moved 25 mile away, worked long hours so it was always a mammoth effort for his Mam to get to see him, plus she was a bit of a drinker and she knew the states he could get him self in to, so once she met me and we formed a friendship she calmed down on the mum worry, shame he didn’t on the drinking though, hence the break up!
And then I come on to my lovely mother in law now!
You know, she’s just a little treasure! 63, two jobs,

widowed last year and she just gets on with it!
The death of her husband was sad and still is! What I mean by ’she just gets on with it’ is she’s full of life now, she looked after her sick husband for two year, ran a home, held down two jobs. It didn’t grind her down. It was a tough few year for us all but she’s come through the other side with a new zest for life.
She’s able to enjoy our son more, he was 2 and a bit by the time he spent a night at hers because I didn’t think it was fair to asked her to have him while she had my father in law

to look after, she goes out with the girls from work regularly, she took a trip to Ireland with her mum and her sister in the summer.
I’ve always got on with her, she really is a nice woman and she’ll do anything for us. It’s a running joke now that she likes me more than she likes my partner because she text me more often than him! It will be me and her arranging what day we’re seeing each other that week or if I can borrow her steamer or use her amazon prime!
The in laws do have a massive effect on your relationship and having a decent one for

once has meant no arguments for me and my partner, no judging over my parenting, no snide comments to my partner about me. It’s just easy!
She comes along to my family gatherings now and her and my mum get along, me and my partner have been together a while now so integrating families isn’t unusual but it just means we’re one big happy family!
I know people who HATE their in laws and go to great lengths to dodge them or forever slagging them off, sister in laws being a bitch, father in laws protecting their little girls. I mean, it’s all done out

of love and what they think is probably in the best interest of their son/daughter, brother/sister but there’s a time to just back the hell off and let them work out their own paths. Be happy or learn from experiences. They forget that they were in our shoes one day or will be!
But as it stands, my mother in law is bloody lovely and I really can’t complain 🙂
