This Thing Called ’Me’
’New job, new house, new car, new bod,
Be a better person, get a better lot,
Couldn’t possibly end the year,
Happy and content,
Need a million reasons,
For this person to repent.
I think I do OK, but is this life enough?
Insta people have more fun,
and do a load more ’stuff’.
They have better bodies,
no cellulite or lines,
Fancy houses of their own,
with no mortgages or loans.
Could I be a size smaller?
Or maybe two or three?
Perhaps if I turned Vegan,
Or only drank green tea?

I have enough kids?
They have many more,
Perhaps they find pregnancy easy?
The sickness, such a bore.
I could earn more money,
but I quite like my job,
It would be a shame to jack it in,
For one or two more ’bob’.
And our home is so cosy,
Perfectly styled? Perhaps not,
But it holds our memories,
Of the happy life we’ve got.
Is our marriage perfect?
Who knows, but we have love,
Will the New Year bring enough?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
But maybe, just maybe,
I can try, at least,
Starting it with happiness,
At
